Present at GDC, OnLive’s CEO/Founder Steve Perlman announced that the PC and Mac versions of its game service will begin rolling out to consumers on June 17 during the E3.
First unveiled last year, the OnLive Game Service will allow gamers to try, rent and purchase the latest games instantly via a broadband connection on virtually any PC or Mac, via a small browser plug-in, or on an HDTV, via OnLive’s MicroConsole TV Adapter (an announcement about the TV Adapter will be made later this year). Perlman confirmed that publishers like Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, 2K Games, THQ and Warner Bros. Interactive are among the main partners.
"This marks a huge milestone for both OnLive and the interactive entertainment landscape as a whole, changing the way that video games are developed, marketed, accessed and played," said Perlman. We are opening the door to incredible experiences for gamers and enormous opportunities for developers and publishers."
The OnLive Game Service will be available to early registrants throughout the 48 contiguous United States. The initial offering will be supported by a $14.95 monthly service fee, which will provide access to an ever-increasing library of high-end, new-release, instant-play game content without the need to purchase expensive PC gaming or console systems.
An exclusive, pre-registration offer was also unveiled. The first 25,000 qualified registrants will have their OnLive $14.95 monthly service fee waived for the first three months of service. During this special three month introductory period, full versions of games will be available for purchase or rental.

Anybody going to be jumping on this service when it is released? I was hoping it would have been a little cheaper myself. I mean, no need to buy a new console and you will have the most up to date graphics cards and plus have cross platform gaming as well. It has it's pluses but also has negatives as well I guess.
At $14.95 a month it comes out to be $179.40 a year. Now include your ISP fees for a year, which is $59.00 a month for 12 months equals $708.00 a year. But I will have internet regardless if I own this or not, so I guess you can add or subtract it as you see fit....So you are basically buying a new upgraded "system" with the latest and greatest graphics that are available for $179.00 a year.
I paid $798.00 for the two Xbox consoles I have had to purchase between the 5 years of ownership. This was the cheapest one available with a 20G HD.
To me, the OnLive service offers way more pluses then any console out at this time. It has unlimited storage space as it stores all your game saves "in the cloud". You can start a game on your computer, press pause on that game and turn off the computer, then sign in on your Microconsole at a different day, and start off at the exact same pause screen you was at before you left.
You can play consoles against someone on a computer, against someone on their iPhone with the cross platform gaming. Yes you heard that right, you can use your iPhone to play games such as Crysis against people on their computer.
This will change the industry if it catches on, which I think it will. What do you guys think about the new service and will you be purchasing it ?
