Knowing how the socom series has been, you probably will not be seeing any patches till about the summer of 2009.

even AFTER everything is fixed (that's assuming they do), you probably won't see any new maps for 2 to 3 years if at all. I just don't have any faith in what sony says anymore.

I think I've been fairly honest in my review thus far. Have a look at the 1up review...I mostly agree with it and they gave it a C+. www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3170791I don't regret buying it at all. It's fun as hell and well worth the $40 ($60 if you need a headset). Having said that, I wouldn't recommend any of you buy it. Wait until everything is fixed. If it never gets fixed, then you saved your money. If it does get fixed, then you can decide for yourself whether or not you want to buy it. I played last night again with very little server issues, so we're getting there. You're all very sure to express your low expectations for this game based on history. Slant Six has already done more pre and post-release than Zipper ever did. They released 6 patches during the beta alone. They actually read message boards and base updates on user feedback. Since release, people have asked for more ranked rooms. They did it sometime in the past 2 days. I'm very interested to see how the DLC plays out. I hate the idea of pay maps because, much like SOCOM 2, it sucks when people have to base what rooms they can play in by what maps they have. Not sure if this is how it was in SOCOM 3, I skipped that garbage. I can keep you guys updated if you're at all interested. Although you may think I see through Sony colored sun glasses, or sip from the "Sony Kool-aid", I make it a point to at least not bullshit. I'm not in the business of trying get Sony more business. Graphics are good, but not the greatest. Gameplay, in my opinion, is heads above any FPS I've played. Maybe that's just because I'm not a huge fan of respawn, kill, respawn, kill. I like tactics and strategy. Some of the controls/mechanics are fucked. For example, a weapon wheel instead of the typical SOCOM weapon menu. When the wheel is up to change your weapon, you can't move. No more leaning with the D-pad. You have to tilt your controller. Needless to say, I don't lean much anymore as I'm not a fan of sixaxis control. 7 maps, day and night, all/most game modes are now played on all/most maps. Demolition in Frostfire, Suppression in Desert Glory, Extraction in Crossroads are a few examples and are pretty weird to get used to.

You can turn that leaning shit off in the options menu is what I read in some message boards.
I hate when they short you maps on the game only to release them 3-4 weeks after the game drops as DLC. Its a rip off. They should have the maps in the game already. They should look at GRAW 2 and how they did it. After 2 DLC map packs there was 50+ maps. Now thats sweet! Too bad nobody gave the game any play due to GOW coming out.

I didn't give GRAW the time of day because, as much as I hate to say it, the controls were "clunky". I prefer 3rd person over 1st person ANY day, but I've yet to play a 3rd person game, INCLUDING Socom, that has the fluidity and spot on controls like Call Of Duty.
The one thing I WILL give GRAW props for is the DLC maps. There were a ton of them, and the one DL map, the one in the forest during fall.....that map was SICK! But the controls sucked so freaking bad for that game. It felt like everything was in slow-mo. And your guy ran with a gimp, and God forbid you run up a hill. It was like he had a peg leg.
And something that concerns me about Socom is that they seem to keep putting out the same maps. DESERT GLORY!?!?!?! That fucking map is 6 years old! Come on. It was just an alright map to begin with. Get your own fucking ideas and produce some maps on your own!

Well the reason GRAW was like that because they was just trying to keep it "Realistic". I do agree the controls were slow but it was more true to life so to speak. COD is more of an arcade type game in my opinion. Not a all out aracadish but had its moments. I enjoyed both games though. I also liked how GRAW gave you the option to choose First person or third person view. Wish all shooters gave that option. I get dizzy playing in first person.

You're all very sure to express your low expectations for this game based on history. Reaper, ever heard of the saying "history has a way of repeating itself"?

GRAW 2 has clunky controls, Socom has severe lag, COD 4 is too arcadey. These game developers will never get the right formula right. All I can say is that Socom 2 had the right balance, and I don;t think that any game will ever replicate that formula again. The thing I dont like eiter is that the graphics are soo good now, its getting harder and harder to see your oponent. I guess if we want a true tactical game, we all should just dust off our PS2 and play Socom 2.

So far, the WaW beta has some sneakiness to it. And for Socom 2, I think it was the beginning of the end for the Socom series. The hit detection was HORRIBLE. Maps were great (especially Enowapi and Shadow Falls), but man, where was the hit detection of Socom 1? In the Waw beta, on HARDCORE, it's like Socom 1 in that aspect. And like I said, you can blend in a little bit. Better than COD 4 anyhow.

The only thing I hate about WaW, is the sniping points. They only make a small few where you can get spotted easily and the maps could be a tad bit larger with more choke points and area's to make it more tactical. So far the maps tend to be a litte run and gunny, but not a gunny as COD4.

I don't think so. A lot of choke points except for Roundhouse. Castle is one big choke point with the broken building (which everyone flocks to like flies on shit), the high dojo building, and the garden. Makin has the water, round hut, and the temple area. You just got to be sneaky!
