Here is an update from the Confrontation Developers....
Hey SOCOMers, I’m back with answers to a few questions.
First off I would like to take a moment to clear up some confusion that has arisen in regards of Crossroads map and how many players it can support. What you have seen to date is a rebuilt version of the classic Crossroads map. The artwork has been redone for PS3 with high fidelity textures, shaders and lighting as well as some small adjustments to scale in certain spaces. To reiterate, the only area that has been shown is the 16 player area of the map. The 32 player mode for Crossroads is an expansion to the original map that creates an additional ring of buildings, roads and terrain around the original core. If you ever wondered what lay beyond the barricaded roads in the original map, we are going to show you. Also, for those who were concerned, the destructible bridges in the map will function exactly the same way they have in the past. The paths underneath the bridges will be blocked with the debris of the ruined bridge once destroyed.
To respond to the feedback on audio, our sound quality will be a dramatic improvement over the previous SOCOM games due to the fact that we can push a lot more with the PS3. Like I mentioned in a previous post we have captured high resolution samples of our weapons being fired and I’m positive everyone will be impressed with the final results.
Let’s move on to the mocap questions. For the mocap we hired actors to wear the suits as they were able to deliver more dramatic movement which translates really well into games. Don’t fear however: Rob Roy was at the shoot (the ex-US Navy SEAL that you’ve seen on the box art of every SOCOM game) giving detailed examples and guidance to the actors to keep it authentic. Also, have you ever ask tried asking a SEAL to do a victory dance? Neither have we.
The last question I am going to cover this week was if I or any of the other members of the dev team plan on playing the game with the community when it comes out: the answer is YOU BET, we can’t wait to face you guys online! When the game goes gold, the Slant Six clan will be active and dispensing justice.

Guess what boys. I honestly don't think that anything would change even if we all had PS3's and Socom all over again. I think all our lives have changed so dramatically that we all wouldn't be getting on like back in the day. Hell, we can't get 6 of us on at one time just to play 360.

i agree with reagan. the last time we had alot of people on socom, was socom2. that was almost 2 1/2 years ago. since then there has been 2 more socom games & not so many of us played. i hate to sound like a broken record. but move on people. socom was a special game in our lives. it was a chapter in our lives we went through...like high school being a chapter in our lives. we went through it now move on. in those 2 1/2 years moved from socom, so much has happened in my life. being personal (having my son) to so many other things, to some real good games. if we miss socom so much... how come not one of us are playing socom 3 or socom:CA? the game lost it's spark, it's fire. it was the 1st PS2 game that let us play with all kinds of friends & meet new peeps. i think we would feel this way if socom was a futuristic shooter, with the same online element of online play for the PS2. yes we all loved socom..so did i but there are to many good games coming out to dwell of the socom years.

If I had the PS3, I would buy it, if it came out for the 360, I still would buy it. Would I play it like I used to, I wouldn't but I would still get it. The only thing that upsets me though is that they changed the whole format, therefore I know it wouldn't be the same as it used to.

It all depends on the gameplay. If it did infact go back to socom 1&2 level, I would be all over it.

I would buy it if it wasn't on SONY servers. Ive been playing the 360 tooo long without lag and the first flicker of it on Socom on a PS3 would make me throw it against the wall !!!
Curious to anyone who has a PS3. How are there servers?
I would also like to add a note. The only issues I have had online are with EA Sports games. And it is really bad on Nascar. So bad you cant even play it online. I have it and dont even remember the last time I played it due to poor online play. And NCAA Football isnt much better. I get disconnected on there a lot too. But since they got the new boss man running things from Xbox I look forward to seeing some changes.

it's not microsoft that is screwing up ea online, it's ea screwing their own servers up. as for ps3, I think bunk is the only one on here that made the leap.

i think there is probably no lag on the PS3...right now that is. the reason there is really no game support that would really test the servers.
