God of War II Game Director moves on, but a third game is official.

November 6, 2007 - IGN has confirmed that Cory Barlog, the Game Director for God of War II and member of Sony Computer Entertainment America, Santa Monica Studios, is moving on. Paul Murphy, PR Manager for SCEA offered this statement on the matter: "We can confirm that Cory Barlog, Game Director for God of War II, is leaving the SCEA SM Studio and we are grateful for his work and creative vision for the critically acclaimed God of War franchise. Moving forward, we are confident in the God of War team, as they are an extremely talented group of people that are passionate about the franchise and dedicated to creating even more epic content with God of War: Chains of Olympus for the PSP and God of War III for PS3."
You're likely quick note the last words of that quote, which confirm the obvious - God of War III is in fact currently in production for the PlayStation 3. Being that the first two installments were critical and commercial smash hits, this was pretty much a no-brainer, but it's nice to see it in writing.
Barlog's departure marks the second directorial change of the much lauded God of War series. He took over the game's development from David Jaffe who eventually left Santa Monica Studios to found Eat Sleep Play. His move away from Sony is the only known major change in regards to the God of War team, as everything else appears to remain on track for its upcoming projects. No one has been officially named as a new Game Director to replace Barlog, but we'll keep you posted as information comes in.
