PS3 Firmware Version 2.0 Announced
It's coming sooner than you might think.

November 7, 2007 - On the official PlayStation blog, Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that version 2.0 of the PlayStation 3 firmware is set for release within the next few days. Often assumed that the update would coincide with the release of PlayStation Home and focus on functionality associated with the virtual social network, it instead brings a bevy of new customization, alert and other features.
For starters, the Remote Start ability, which was announced a few months ago in Japan, will be added to Remote Play. This will allow you to power on the system via your PSP, use the system remotely and then put it back into standby mode.
In the Network category on the Cross Media Bar, you'll now find an icon for the Information Bar. Once activated, a ticker will scroll along the top of the screen and alert you to new downloads, news and so forth that relate to the system. This means that if you're online when a new demo hits the PlayStation Store, you'll know it's up without having to browse through the store and see what's new.
Music and photo playlists will also make the cut, allowing you to compile a list of whatever pictures or tunes you want to listen to at any given time.
The last newly-announced portion of the 2.0 update comes in the form of custom themes. You'll be able to change the background, icons and even sounds of the interface to whatever you want. It's unknown how it'll work, but Sony has said that you'll be able to create your own custom themes.
There are a number of other new features that will hit with the update, but Sony hasn't yet announced what they are. With 2.0 coming in mere days, we'll find out soon enough.
